How these swaps came together

Every swap starts as two listings on GoSwap. Here is the path from a listing to a signed letter of intent on GoSwap, and on to a closing the members report.

  1. Step 1

    List an asset

An owner lists something worth $5,000 or more and says what they want in return: the asset types, locations and price range.

  2. Step 2

    Find a match

GoSwap compares what each owner has with what the other wants. Members also search the marketplace and send swap proposals directly.

  3. Step 3

    Agree on terms

The two owners negotiate condition, timing and any cash or financing that balances the values, then both accept the same terms.

  4. Step 4

    Sign the letter of intent

GoSwap prepares a non-binding letter of intent and both sides e-sign it. GoSwap's role ends there.

  5. Step 5

    Close and report

The members close with a title company, attorney or DMV, then tell GoSwap the swap closed. Each story on this page was reported closed by its members.

Our closings were simultaneous in two different states. The closing worked out perfectly plus we were able to save a lot of money by doing it ourselves in trading.

I had contacted them last year when I saw their listing on GoSwap. We emailed then talked by phone about a possible trade. After a couple weeks they decided to try to sell rather than trade, so we stopped communicating.

About 6 months passed, then I noticed their house was still listed on GoSwap, so I wrote them again. They'd still liked our house in Florida.

We traveled to NM to see their house in June, then a week later they came to Florida to see ours. We really liked one another's houses.

We started to work things out, figuring out how to download a free basic realtor's offer to purchase contract, then helped one another filling it out, sharing ideas about inspections, surveys, bank loans, deadlines. We made sure it was as clear as possible, fair, and safe for one another. "Apples for apples".

Using a major closing company who had worked with house swaps before and had offices in both states was very helpful. We were in Orlando and they were in Santa Fe.

After closing we all packed and drove our Penske moving trucks, west and east, the 2000 miles. We still email almost every day.

I finally got the Prevost traded, thanks to GoSwap. The deal closed yesterday and the buyer drove it away. I received about 5 inquiries per week with different choices of trades.
